Top Tips for Getting the Most Out of Events

Events

Attending industry events and conferences is a must for smart business owners. However, merely showing up and hoping to shake the right hands is not going to be enough. You need to make sure that you have a game plan in place to truly get the most out of any event you decide to attend.

Decide the Events You Wish to Attend

Decide the Events You Wish to Attend

You can’t expect to attend each and every event that takes place throughout the calendar year. Whether you focus on those that are for your industry alone or you want to maybe attend more general ones for UK business owners, there are plenty of options out there.

Remember that you need to plan these events around other deadlines that your company might face. If you have the end of a big project ahead, is it wise that you attend a conference? Should you instead be overseeing things? Plan the events you wish to attend in person and see if there are hybrid options available. If you are unable to attend in person, you might still be able to grab a panel or two virtually.

Plan the Discussions You Want to See

Many big conferences might run panels side by side. This means that it could be impossible to attend both unless you are able to access streams of each one after the fact. Therefore, you need to work out which panels you definitely want to get to so you can be there in plenty of time, and potentially even submit a question.

Most events, whether they are based in the UK like those run by RX or are run in some far-flung international destination, will release a schedule of events beforehand. Be sure to check it out – especially if there is a plan for booths you wish to attend on the conference floor as well!

Follow Up on Connections

If you have had a good conversation with someone at the event, make sure that you follow it up when you can. If they gave you an email address or a mobile number, a quick message through these might be all that is needed. You could also send them a message through a platform like LinkedIn.

Be open and professional, and be prepared to have to introduce yourself all over again! After all, they and you will have met so many people throughout the event, so it might take a few moments to jog their memory. Offer something of value to them in this initial meeting. It could be as simple as setting up a call, or it could be the start of a long-standing partnership between your two companies.

Events are incredibly important, and you need to ensure that you adequately plan your activities when you wish to attend one. With the right plan of action in place, you should be able to pick up many interesting insights and connections that could then be used to further your business.
